In January, Petrobras brought its civil litigation to an end when it agreed to pay a total of US$2.95 billion in settlement of a U.S. class-action lawsuit stemming from the company’s wide-ranging corruption scandal. Teva Pharmaceuticals also wrapped up its dispute with Israeli authorities regarding bribery in Mexico, Russia, and Ukraine, accepting responsibility and an administrative fine of NIS 75 million (approx. US$22 million). Israel was in the news again when it was reported that Benjamin Netanyahu would be summoned to testify in connection with his close associates’ alleged involvement in bribery on behalf of shipbuilder ThyssenKrupp.
